lyrics

How does a sorrow so strong
feel so right?
Open the gates to the field
turn on the flood lights
Oh, God
I thought I’d arrived
I guess that I’m now just departing
for all that I’ve strived

The shadows set in for a while;
that’s all right

An inherently human grief;
the right kind of tears
Compared to the violent despair
of those formative years
I watch myself writing a letter;
a bid to infuse
Pass relics of our time together
their memories bruise

A punch to the gut but I know
it’s all right

A patient wakes up on a ward
and he’s no longer welcome
It speaks volumes that a pain such as his
is a positive outcome
Afforded, as everyone else,
a heart that will sing
A gravity compounded by longing,
invisible wings

These stitches and sutures will scar,
and that’s alright

So the trials of this voyage are great,
its brute force becomes clear
But the bottom line is this is real,
it’s a part of my time here

To weather these storms is to live,
And that’s alright
